As a Bostonian, I’ve visited Vermont many times through all seasons, and there’s never a wrong time to visit! In the summer it’s an ideal location for hiking and mountain biking, and in the winter you can ski and snowboard. Woodstock, Vermont is one of my favorite small towns in New England. Take it from a Bostonian who lived and explored New England. There hasn’t been a town in Vermont I’ve found I love more! The Woodstock Inn and Resort is right in the heart of town, and it’s the perfect place to stay, especially for a weekend away. They have a wonderful restaurant on site, a LEED-certified spa with two outdoor pools, a golf course, and bikes for guests. Don’t miss visiting the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park and Billings Farm & Museum. Admission is included if you’re a guest of the hotel.
Best midrange hotel: Inn on Putney
This is one of the best boutique hotels in Vermont. This has a French aesthetic, yet is quintessential New England. Their website gives a wonderful list of room types, a few even having mountain views. Their backyard boasts one of the largest ‘Cut Leaf Japanese Maple trees in the United States’. You will also have access to their property. Their property features 18 miles of trails located within a wildlife sanctuary. On a rainy day, cozy up in their library or conservatory. This spot is such a hidden gem in Vermont.
Best budget hotel: Chalet 239 Boutique Hotel
This uber-chic motel is close to Stratton and just down the road from Mt. Snow ski resort. Mt. Snow is one of my favorite ski resorts in New England. If you’re hunting for fall foliage in Vermont in October, it’s impossible to find accommodations for less than $200/night. If you’re visiting during October you can even find weekdays at this spot around $150/night. As this property is fairly new or recently renovated, they don’t have a website currently but you can book through Booking.com!

Similar to Bennington, this town is quite small. It’s right down the road from Manchester, and I would recommend not only a visit but a stroll through the common. It’s quite picturesque!
The Dorset Inn: This next spot is in the heart of Dorset. It’s located right along the Dorset Green and across from the popular Dorset Union Store. Dorset is well placed, close to Manchester but away from its crowds. Dorset is also very close to Bennington and my favorite Woodstock.
