My No. 1 Pick of Provence Chateau Hotels
Are you visiting Provence, France and want an unforgettable experience staying in one of the most beautiful Provence chateau hotels? I’ve traveled around the world, and can you believe this is the only hotel, or chateau should I say, that I’ve booked and stayed at a second time?!
Chateau de Varenne
Pros: What’s not to love about Chateau de Varenne. Even though I’ve traveled around the world and been to almost forty countries I have NEVER booked a hotel twice except for this one!! This Provence Chateau hotel offers magic, I don’t really know how to describe it. When walking into luxury hotels or resorts, there’s a certain relaxation of your soul and an excitement for your holiday to begin. Chateau de Varenne offers both of these feelings. It feels like coming home, since it’s an intimate stay with limited guest rooms. You can lay by their outdoor pool all day, and the terrace is perfect for breakfast or afternoon cocktails.
Cons: I really can’t think of any! Click below to book your stay, as I said before this property only has a limited number of guest rooms!

5-star Hotels in Provence France
Hotel Chateau des Alpilles
This five-star property is located in the charming village of Saint Remy de Provence. Saint Remy was one of my favorite small villages we visited; it has a traditional Provinicial feel but also plenty of shops and restaurants. This country home that has been restored on 700 acres is surrounded by magnolia trees, so when you’re driving up to the property you’ll truly feel in the countryside. Le Chateau des Alpilles features a pool, a large outdoor dining area, and two gourmet restaurants. The best part about this hotel is that they also have cottages and farm suites on site which is perfect for your whole family!

Chateau Saint-Martin and Spa
This next location is a destination in itself and is extremely luxurious. Chateau Saint Martin is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region but is closer to Nice and the French Riviera coastline. This stunning spot is part of the Oetker Collection and is a 12th-century Knights Templar Castle. I’m not sure it’s considered a traditional Provence Chateau hotel, since it’s almost like a resort! It’s high in the Provence hills, so it offers sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes.

Chateau de Montcaud
This next five-star hotel is about forty minutes north of Avignon. It has a large outdoor pool and tennis courts! As I will mention later in this post, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence are two of the best areas to stay in Provence. This hotel is very family-friendly, and children are welcome. If you stay at this property, don’t miss the nearby La Chartreuse-De-Valbonne monastery built in 1204! The charming town of Uzes is also close by, only around a half-hour drive. This town is a bit of a hidden gem in Provence and worth visiting!
If you’re looking for the most incredible 5-star luxurious hotels on the Amalfi Coast, here’s a comprehensive guide for you!

Relais Chateau Provence Hotel
These properties below are part of the luxurious Relais and Chateaux brand, curating the ultimate experiences for all their guests.
Villa Gallici Hotel and Spa
This 18th-century residence is the best place to stay in Aix-en-Provence. This country house pays homage to Italy with its opulent, baroque decor and character throughout the property. Enjoy a swim among cypress trees by their stunning pool. Book one of the 23 rooms or luxury suites and be only a few minutes walk from the center of Aix.

Chateau de Berne
This next five-star hotel and spa is another one of the Provence Chateau hotels that feels almost resort-like but has multiple villas on site for a more intimate and private stay. This wine estate is stunning and located on 1,300 acres and vineyards. You will find a Michelin-starred restaurant Le Jardin de Berne with farm-to-table offerings. In this area of Flayosc, France there is plenty for the outdoor adventure traveler like hiking and cycling. If you’re visiting during the lavender season in Provence, this stunning location is only a little over an hour’s drive from Valensole. Find out how to visit all the best locations to find lavender in Provence here!

Chateau de Fonscolombe
This next hotel is in a perfect location between Aix-en-Provence and one of my favorite Provence villages or small towns, Lourmarin. This property offers a traditional Provence Chateau hotel experience and is family-friendly. This 18th-century castle is situated on a large property of 30 acres complete with its own vineyards. This chateau also features a pool, fitness center, spa services, and private, romantic dinners for their guests on their stunning property.

Aix en Provence Chateau Hotel
Chateau de la Gaude
This secluded location in busy Aix-en-Provence offers the most unique cuisine of Provencal, Japanese, and Mediterranean cuisines! It has the most beautiful garden areas, almost reminding me of Versailles in Paris! Their spa includes Hammam treatments, and their interiors and decor are simply stunning.
Best Areas to Stay in Provence
The best areas to stay in Provence are Avignon or Aix-en-Provence, as these are the bigger towns or cities of the area and offer hotel accommodations for all budgets, restaurants, and shops. Both Provence and Aix-en-Provence are an easy drive to the Luberon area of Provence, where you will find the incredibly beautiful towns and villages. These towns and villages have lovely accommodations but not as many. If you’re looking for more information on how to visit, read this France itinerary.
Want to stay in a castle in Provence? This next Provence Chateau hotel is straight out of a Disney fairytale. This castle is located near Avignon and is surrounded by vineyards. This chateau is a former marquis’ chateau and has a gourmet restaurant on site!
This next Provence chateau is extremely affordable and in the heart of Provence, north of Avignon. This property has a beautiful indoor and outdoor pool, and the chateau’s restaurant offers a six-course tasting menu.
You would never believe this next property also north of Avignon is owned by Best Western. This newly renovated property has 31 rooms and suites with 4-star amenities. Even though the decor is modern, it’s still very French chic for a Provence Chateau hotel. This property is a great value and a great base for exploring Provence.
This medieval castle is in the heart of the Gorges du Verdon in Provence. This area is between the French Riviera and Aix-en-Provence. Even though Marseille is technically the largest town in Provence and is also located on the coast, Aix is the largest in the Provence region. This location is also perfect for adventure travelers, the Vernon caves being only a 20-minute drive away. I’ll even note that the medieval decor doesn’t only refer to the facade but the interiors of this property, even with four poster beds!

What is the prettiest place in Provence?
Here are a few other properties that don’t classify as Provence Chateau hotels but are wonderful places to stay in Provence. These properties in Gordes, Menerbes, Bonnieux, and Lourmarin are some of the smaller villages of Provence, but all these properties are simply stunning and some of the best places to stay in Provence.
Avignon: Hotel Moulin d’Aure $ Le Prieure $$
Aix-en-Provence: Villa Saint-Ange $$$ Hotel Cezanne $-$$
Gordes: Airelles Gordes, La Bastide $$$$
